Magnificent Custom Platinum Bezel Set Lever Back Earrings with Milgrain from Brian Gavin

Lucy contacted us via live chat in early August asking us if we would set diamonds that had been purchased elsewhere. Jamie explained that we were willing to do so but that the diamonds would need to be insured. She had 4 diamonds that she wanted to send in to have us create custom lever back bezel set earrings with milgrain – two 1.50 carat and two 0.34 carat round ideal cut diamonds. She emailed in some inspiration pictures and we created the CAD renderings for her to approve. The project took a little longer than expected due to the intricate design and fine bezel work, but the result was stunning!!

Hi Jamie, I received the diamond earrings today. You’re right they were worth the wait. They are beautiful! The finish is excellent! The setting helps to enhance the sparkle in the diamonds. Regards, Lucy

Irish Customer Selects Brian Gavin to Create his Custom Platinum Diamond Engagement Ring and Wedding Band

Jonathan contacted us in October 2013 via Live Chat from Ireland with questions about our Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamonds. Jamie continued to work with him as he navigated through his different options. It took him  almost a year to finalize his decision of purchasing a magnificent 1.732 D VS2 Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamond and a custom engagement ring and matching band featuring channel set Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamond melee. His journey is written in his own words below!

I started looking for a diamond in May 2013. I knew very little. I went to the 2 best jewellers in Northern Ireland, a jewellers in Manchester England and various UK websites such as and I realized that online was the best way to get the best diamond for my money. At that stage I had no idea about EGL certificates but did learn about GIA XXX cut. That’s what I wanted 1 carat GIA xxx D colour VS2 as I couldn’t risk it not being eye clean.

I then progressed to USA websites and looked at bluenile, whiteflash and highperfomancediamonds. I reviewed them all as well as independent websites truthaboutdiamonds (Michael Fried) now diamondpro and niceice (Todd Gray). As independents they both told me that Brian Gavin H and A was the very best diamond you could buy.

I was sold and then had to save for a year and a bit and find a 1 plus carat D VS2. Of course I asked Jamie a million questions in between times by phone and e mail. I ended up with a 1.732 D VS2 Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamond.

The setting was also a nightmare as we simply couldn’t find anything either of us liked anywhere then BG custom made one for us exactly as we wanted. I also ordered the wedding band at the same time so they were exactly the same.

Sarah-Louise knew we were going away but not where to and not when until a couple of weeks before hand. I told her at the airport that it was New York. We stayed at the Trump Soho and went to the Empire state building that night then on to Restaurant Daniel in Manhattan where I proposed.

I could write book on diamonds but I’m done for now until I need a wedding band. Jonathan.

Brian Gavin Honored to Create 20th Anniversary 3 Stone Diamond and Sapphire Right Hand Ring

Jane contacted us via Live Chat in May. She wanted to reset her mother’s 2.37 ctw round brilliant diamond into a custom designed ring in time for her 20th wedding anniversary in October.

She had been referred to our company by a loyal customer who felt that Brian would be the best person to work with. Her husband wanted to handle all aspects of the project and asked that we facilitate him working directly with Brian Gavin. She wanted a 3 stone right hand ring with blue sapphires on either side of the center stone. She said that the diamond was old and seemed to have a few chips, and wanted to discuss a possible recut prior to designing and creating the ring.

The diamond was sent in and Lesley got in touch with CJ. Brian had examined the diamond and felt that a recut would improve the performance of the diamond. The finished weight was 2.05 ct with a diameter that went from 8.37mm to 8.18mm. The pictures in the gallery below are testament to that!

Regarding the design of the ring, Jane had told CJ that she wanted a ring that was clean, classic, bold (not delicate) with all 3 stones bezel set and with a low profile. We selected two 6.5mm diamond cut blue sapphires and then CJ left the actual design of the ring to us. He was pleased with the first CAD rendering and instructed us to cast the ring in platinum.

We heard from Jane:

Lesley, greetings – I hope you are well. I got the 3-stone ring on our anniversary Wednesday. It certainly is beautiful!

She posted on a consumer forum and received the following comment which really sums it up:

I find your ring especially attractive because of the combination of modern (highly polished, sturdy yet elegant feel) and very classic ( 3-stone, polished filigree in the basket). Your husband has excellent taste!

Brian Gavin Customer Thrilled with her Triple Strand Pearl Necklace

At the beginning of August our loyal customer Danielle contacted Jamie:

Does Brian Gavin do pearl necklaces? I can't seem to find any on the website. If not do you have any recommendations?

She had a special event to attend on Sunday 10/19 and wanted three rows of pearls 18”, 16” and 14”, all attached to a single clasp. She emailed us an inspiration picture and we got to work to source options for her. She wanted the primary color to be black and the accent to be a lavender color. We emailed her 3 options using 5.5 – 6mm fresh water pearls (see picture below) and she was captivated by the red pearls in Option #3!

The pearls were strung and the finishing touch was a very elegant silver clasp. She was thrilled with the result!

Hi Leslie and Jamie,

Here are some photos of me and my awesome new pearls. So far I've worn them with a gown, office wear, and jeans!!! They are so versatile and different. I've gotten so many compliments from people. So glad you always accommodate my non-traditional side.

Brian Gavin Classic Tiffany Style Solitaire Continues to be a Huge Hit…

Sue called in to our offices in September. She was coming up for a big birthday and was shopping for a diamond upgrade. She was extremely nervous to spend a large amount without having seen the diamond first. She ordered a magnificent 2.54 I VS1 Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamond and had us set it in our Classic tiffany style half round setting with a matching band.

Oh happy day!!! My husband and I picked up the box at Fedex and opened it in the car. The first thing he said was you’re going to get mugged! I didn’t say anything because I was speechless. Even though I knew exactly what I wanted for my big birthday diamond upgrade and I had done tons of research, I still worried a little about spending so much money on a diamond and a setting that I had never seen in person. Well I didn’t need to worry. It is the most beautiful diamond that I have ever seen and the engagement ring setting and wedding band are simply exquisite. I immediately put on my new rings and we took them out on the town to lunch and running errands. The stone looks magnificent in every lighting situation. It even out sparkles the Hearts on Fire diamonds in my old ring. My sincere thanks to Denise for making this such an easy transaction, to Jenny for providing the gorgeous glamour shots, and to Brian Gavin for selecting such incredible diamonds. You will be hearing from me in the future when I am ready to buy diamond bands to accompany my new ring and when I hopefully convince my husband that he needs a new diamond and platinum wedding band. You guys really do do big rocks and you do them right. With much appreciation and happiness, Sue

Happy Customer Proposes in Hong Kong With a Brian Gavin Diamond Engagement Ring

Tom registered on our site in mid-May and Denise immediately emailed him to see how we could assist him. He told us that he was looking for a 1.2-1.5 carat ideal cut solitaire in one of our standard settings. By the beginning of June he was ready to purchase. Like many of our customers, he was in a time crunch. He was due to meet the future bride’s parents the following weekend in Hong Kong and a proposal was being planned for around the same time.

The natural choice for Tom was a gorgeous 1.346 ct. Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows Round Diamond set in our Tapered Tiffany Style Half Round setting. We got to work and shipped the ring out as soon as we possibly could. When we followed up with him he said this.

Many thanks for everything Denise. She said yes!

We congratulated him and he responded with this and eventually the photos below.

Thank you! We took a couple of us together afterwards. I will send them over if you would like to see in the next few days when she returns from Hong Kong. Thank you so much for all your help and advice. The service I have had from Brian Gavin and yourself has been superb.

Brian Gavin Customer's Romantic Proposal Goes Off Without A Hitch!

Jack contacted us via Live Chat in July as he was beginning his diamond engagement ring search. He requested a face-to-face meeting at the Brian Gavin Diamonds office in order to see a specific diamond and setting. We obliged.

Hi Catherine, I would like to thank Brian for taking the time to show me the diamonds and giving me a history of who he is and the diamonds he sell. I am still in the research phase and will let you know when I am ready to order. Thanks so much, Jack

At the end of August he was ready to make the purchase. He chose our Classic Tapered Tiffany Style Half Round setting and a beautiful 1.16 ct. Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows Diamond. By mid-September he had the ring in hand. We received the following email from him after she said, “yes!”

Hi Catherine and Brian Gavin team, Thank you so much for making an excellent diamond ring and allowing my proposal day to flow so smoothly. I ended up flying to the Bay Area and spending a special day with my fiancé on September 18, 2014. We have been dating for more than a year and I took her back to all the places we visited on our very first day together. We stopped by the Safeway where we first met and I snuck in to obtain a bunch of roses. We then proceeded to Land's End, Legion of Honor, Golden Gate Park, and finally the Palace of Fine Arts. At the Palace of Fine Arts, I brought out a blanket where we sat down upon to look over an 88-page booklet that I created describing each day we spent together along with photographs. At the very end, I read her my proposal poem and brought out the diamond. She fell in love with the entire day and the ring. The way the ring shone in the sunlight was mesmerizing! Thank you for your help. I've attached photos of our day. Best Regards, Jack

So romantic! Photos of the special day and ring can be seen below.

Getting To Know the Brian Gavin Team: Catherine

This blog is the third in a monthly series – Getting To Know The BGD Team – where we will be highlighting our amazing team members. These are the folks that you talk to when you call us on the phone and who keep the wheels turning behind the scenes here at Brian Gavin Diamonds.

Getting To Know the Brian Gavin Team: CatherineWhat do you do at BGD and what is the best part of your job?

What is your favorite BGD piece?

I absolutely love the Sara and several Custom Pieces that we have made.

What’s your favorite trend?

What attracts you to a person?

Intelligence and humor.  I love to laugh while hollering answers at Jeopardy.

What is the worst fashion trend you loved?

Cosby sweaters.  I have a very strong affinity for the things in the back of grandparents’ closets.

Who is your favorite musician?

Admittedly, I’m kind of a hipster when it comes to music and love people until they get too popular.  Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of David Ramirez, a folk musician from Austin.

Where do you plan to go on your next vacation?

I’m flying out to Las Vegas for about 24 hours to see a concert.

What kind of pet do you have?

I have a cat and a boyfriend.

What celebrity would you like to get style tips from?

Maggie Gyllenhaal.

What’s in your closet that you just can’t let go of?

My first pair of Chuck Taylors.  They’re barely shoes, but they are my favorite.

Customer Proposes in the Coastal Cave Area of Alaska with a Brian Gavin Diamond Engagement Ring

Matt came to us at the end of June already having a clear picture of what he wanted for his bride-to-be. He had done diamond research online, like many of our customers, and that had led him to Brian Gavin Diamonds. He was planning a fall engagement and decided to order a diamond from our Brian Gavin’s Signature Advance Selection as well as our Grace 3 Stone with Pear Side Stones setting in Platinum. We shipped the ring to him in mid-September and just a few days later we received the email below.

Denise, She LOVED the ring (oh, and she said yes)… 😉 Here's a photo of the 2 of us a month ago, along with the couple pics from the proposal. I set up the camera like we were going to take a timer-photo like we usually do on hikes. But really it was recording and I have the proposal all on video, along with the ability to pull still photos off of it. We snapped a quick hand-pic afterwards as we climbed back up out of the coastal cave area with all the slippery seaweed. It was a magical evening and we'll never forget it. Thanks so much for being a part of it and getting the diamond here so quickly. I'll try to get a writeup of her thoughts on it before too long. Thanks for everything! Matt

Photos of the gorgeous proposal and happy couple can be seen below along with the ring’s glamour shots from BGD.
