At the beginning of January we were contacted by a customer looking to create a 3 stone engagement ring with a Vintage feel. He loved the pictures of the Serendipity ring we had posted on the blog and wanted to use it as an inspiration for his ring, He selected a 0.58 ct Brian Gavin Signature H & A for the center stone  with 2 x 0.32 ct Brian Gavin Signature H & A’s on each side and two 2 x 4mm G VS marquise diamonds. The CAD was then created and the rendering was e-mailed to him for his approval. His girlfriend, Elaine, was involved in the process and approved the CAD rendering too. The ring was cast in separate parts and we e-mailed them pictures of the unassembled ring. They were leaving for Paris for 2 weeks just before Valentine’s Day and we were able to ship in time.

Hi Lesley, The pictures are fantastic and the ring looks magnificent! The combination of Brian's excellent diamonds with the beautiful detailing of the ring (without being overbearing!) is stunning. It's exactly what I think that Elaine was looking for in a ring. I'm trying to be very patient at work, as the first thing I'm going to do is head over to the FedEx office to pick up the ring. After he had picked up the ring we received this ecstatic e-mail:

Hi Lesley,  Oh. My. Just… wow. The sparkle and clarity of the diamonds is truly mesmerizing… those alone are reason enough to just stare at the ring and watch the light play off it. I was walking around my apartment, turning the ring back and forth, watching the reflections in the various lighting conditions. It seemed to go from brilliant to dangerously-distracting-while-walking.

And then there's the setting – outstanding. The features look delicate and beautifully intricate, and yet give off a sense of purpose – not too busy, which is exactly what Elaine was looking for. I love the depth of the detailing that's going on beneath the center diamond – the pictures don't do justice to that aspect of the ring (or the rest of the ring, for that matter – the pictures are fantastic, but you really do have to see this sparkle in person). The marquise diamonds and the milgrain around the ring complete the vintage look I was looking for perfectly.

Thanks to you and to Brian and crew – you've all created an amazing ring for me to pop the question with. As I've mentioned before, I leave for France on Saturday and will be gone for 2 weeks. A few weeks ago we received an e-mail from a very dear customer who was assigned the exciting task of helping her friend’s boyfriend purchase an engagement ring. He had a budget and wanted a very specific style for the setting.

For the center stone she selected a Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamond weighing just under a carat. We shipped off the loose stone so that she could show it to him.

He loved the stone! No big surprise there. He got to compare it to my sister’s 1ct stone with the big cloud and he noticed the difference in performance right away! He wants to go with the stone for sure.

We received the diamond back and set to work with the setting. We had received inspiration pictures and to keep within a fairly tight budget, Brian decided to use an off the shelf setting from a personally approved manufacturer. The unfinished setting was shipped in, was set with Brian Gavin Signature melee and was then hand engraved by our very talented onsite engraver. Finally the beautiful center stone was set and the ring was shipped out to a very happy customer.

He LOVES it!!!! It looks amazing. The engraving is perfect. It is exactly the look he knows she wants. Sheis going to be thrilled!! I can't wait for him to give it to her. Hopefully it will burn a hole in his pocket and he will do it in the next few days. I'll keep you posted. I have to wait to write about it on  PS till he does because she knows my name on there and will know that it is hers if she looks…rats! Thank you for doing an AMAZING job!!

After the proposal we received this in an e-mail:

She is totally head over heels in love with the ring. She couldn't believe that her now DF had saved the pics of the inspiration ring and had something made that was a million times even better! Everyone in both families was so happy for them and thrilled with the gorgeous ring. Kate

In the middle of February we were contacted via e-mail by a customer who had contacted us at the end of last year based on my reputation. On discovering that I had moved, she googled my name and found a way to contact me at my new company. She was looking for a Brian Gavin Signature hearts and arrows diamond in the 1 carat D VS range which would be set into a custom made antique/vintage style platinum setting. She had to wait a few weeks for a stone to become available and after she had purchased  the stone, we shipped it to Nancy Stacy, an appraiser in her area, so both she and her husband could make sure that they loved it before we started the setting. On viewing the diamond, they were blown away by its beauty and performance.

It was shipped back to us and the process of creating the setting began. The customer e-mailed us several "inspiration" pictures and together we ironed out all the details. The actual creation took several weeks from the design process, to the printing of the wax, casting of the ring and the setting of the Brian Gavin Signature melee, to the engraving of the forget me nots on the shank and the last hand crafted bead of milgrain. On receiving the pictures of the finished ring via e-mail, she e-mailed us the following:

…Hi Lesley and Brian,  WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just opened my email and we are just awed by the job that you all did. THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks gorgeous in the photos and I can hardly imagine what it looks like in person!!!!!!!!!!! What a work of beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Well I probably won't sleep much tonight especially if I keep clicking on the photos. What amazingly talented people every one of you are!!! You took my dream ring and made a Brian Gavin heirloom ring!!!!!!!!!!! Much thanks and warmest wishes…

The ring was shipped back to Nancy Stacy where it was picked up by its new owners, who then e-mailed us this:

…This ring is a work of art and an heirloom even now!  Honestly, you and Brian and Mr. Le are just wonderful people. We truly appreciate the way you treated us and are so happy that you are off on your own. You probably already have a ton of loyal followers keeping you busy. You deserve them to follow you. Mostly I have lost my faith that there are decent caring business people but you and Brian are the real deal. Thank you.  May God bless you with every good thing…
