Alani contacted us at the beginning of November with a reset project in mind:

Hi Denise, Leslie, Brian and friends! Hope you are all well and nice and busy leading up to Christmas. I am currently researching the idea of resetting my engagement ring (1ct, in a simple solitaire setting) as I recently broke my wedding band and I'm not too sure if I want to stay with the traditional e ring / w band. I'm pretty hard on my rings and everything that I am drawn to with a lot of bling (pave, halos) isn’t really right for my lifestyle.  Anyway, I was thinking of resetting into a 3 stone, but then I'm not sure if that will be enough bling so I'm looking at a Graduated 5 stone using my current 1ct stone as the center.

Denise worked with Alani to come up with the best combination of diamond sizes to get the flowing, graduated look she was after and also worked on several different ideas for the setting. The final diamond specs were as follows:

• Center stone 1.05ct F SI1 is a GIA XXX round diamond.
• 2 x 0.423ct F SI1 Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds.
• 2  x 0.20ct F VS Brian Gavin Signature diamond melee.

Alani decided not to ship her center stone to us and searched to find a qualified local Australian jeweler to set it. We had all the measurements of the stone and were able to create the CAD with that information. We tweaked the center prongs to make sure that only the prongs showed from the top view, and that the trellis wires were not visible from the top. We sent the updated CAD, received approval and proceeded to caste the ring in platinum and then set the 4 side stones. We e-mailed Glamor Shots of the almost finished ring and then shipped it:

I picked up the package and the ring is beautiful! I can't wait until I get the center stone set…

A few days later we received this e-mail:

Hello Denise, Lesley, Brian and the team at BGD! I am please to let you know that the ring has been completed with the center stone being set today!! I am in love with the ring and it is exactly what I imagined it to be. It's amazing how you guys can take a drawing and bring it to life! The ring is just one ball of sparkle at the moment. It is really unbelievable! I find myself laughing every time I catch a glimpse of it because it is just so unreal. Thanks again, Alani.

We met Brian and Lesley in 2009 and they created what can only be described as a “dream pair” of matching engagement and wedding bands – http://bit.ly/ydfDTp . Stephanie is originally from Texas and so when it came time this year to counter-balance those with a little “fun” stone that is the official gemstone of Texas, well, we knew there was only one couple that we could fully entrust with the job. I can only say that Brian and Lesley not only came up with an amazing looking ring but also one that it is also eminently comfortable and wearable on a daily basis just like their original engagement and wedding band duet. The only remaining question is what color gemstone is next? Ian

At the beginning of October Ian contacted us about creating a unique setting for a topaz he was considering purchasing. He had visited John Dyer’s website and was fascinated by the magnificent colored stones he had been cutting. He specifically wanted the topaz to be a deep “windex” blue. The first stone he liked was sold but he managed to secure a magnificent 22.01 carat cushion cut blue topaz.

We got to work on several sketches and e-mailed him out 4 different options (see below in gallery). He selected design #2. We then created the ring on CAD, e-mailed it to him for review and then cast the ring in platinum.  Ian had said that he would need it no later than February 8, but we wanted to make sure he had it in time for New Years Eve. The ring took many hours to clean and prepare for setting and we thankfully managed to ship it out on Friday evening – our last shipment of the year.

She loves the ring, fits perfectly! The pics were spectacular but also showed just how much work goes into these and that they don’t pop out completely done. Nice to get an appreciation for all of the craftsmanship. Happy Holidays! Ian

Beth called in towards the middle of July with questions about having her approx. 2 carat radiant cut diamond recut. It was a very long shaped radiant and she did not like the stone. She wanted Brian to do his magic! Brian did his predictions and recommended that he recut it into a cushion cut and that although there would be significant weight loss to recut it into a cushion cut, the size loss would not be severe.  The result was fantastic!!

We created Beth’s ring using CAD and sent her the CAD files for approval. We then proceeded to cast the Split Prong Grace setting in 18K rose gold with F/G VS Brian Gavin Signature melee set into the gallery. We managed to ship it out to her in time for an important weekend. We received this heartfelt e-mail from her after she had received the ring:

Dear Lesley and Brian, It's never too late to realize a dream. Here I am, a grandmother, finally being granted a wish made when I was just five years old and my father and I would exclaim together over the starry gems in the jeweler's window. I just knew my fairy godmother would grant me just one. Well, thank you Lesley and Brian for spreading some of that magic my way. It was worth the wait. The best to you and yours, Beth

Gwyneth contacted us at the end of August after she had seen her aunt’s beautiful 5 stone trellis band.

 “Hi Lesley!!! I recently visited with my dear Aunt Lynn and saw her new Brian Gavin 5 stone .33 diamond ring w/trellis setting and WOW!  Any chance of getting a quote of the SAME ring but in size 8.5? Platinum setting – same type of stones??

 Denise worked with her to select 5 magnificent 0.40 – 0.44 ct Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds to set into the Platinum 5 Stone Trellis II setting.

 I'm going on to a conference Sept. 21 – it would be cool to make my friends swoon! But if that's not doable – don't wanna rush ya! I can create jealousy at another venue!

In July of last year Khanh contacted us from Australia to discuss her push present. At the time she was 6 months pregnant and wanted to select her diamond band but wait until after the birth to make sure of her ring size. She selected a 1/2 Eternity U-Prong band and we then waited to make the band until February. During that time Khanh also purchased a Diamonds By The Yard Necklace and Sapphire Halo Diamond Pendant for her mother. Her friend Alex purchased a beautiful Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamond for his wife along with a 1/2 Eternity Bead Set Band. Everything was shipped out to them in March along with two Brian Gavin Signature Blankees and we just received this testimonial along with the pictures in the gallery below.

Jamie, I have some pictures for you with our BGD goodies! Apologies they have taken so long. Please feel free to photoshop the wrinkles and circles from our eyes Just some background info for you: with my ring (1/2 u-prong eternity), this was a push present from my husband for our baby Benjamin. When I showed Alex and Soan (who travelled with us to Las Vegas and Hawaii) the glamour shots of the eternity, they were so impressed, they just had to get one for Soan (1/2 bead set eternity)! Unbeknownst to me at the time, Soan was actually pregnant (she is due in mid October)! And also unbeknownst to both Soan and myself, Alex secretly bought Soan the BGD loose stone. Needless to say, when she unwrapped her package, she was extremely surprised! She was especially surprised that Alex was able to keep it a secret from her for so long as he is a big blabbermouth. We are all so impressed with our goodies. Our rings are so super sparkly and my necklace was very elegant and delicate. We could not stop looking at our bling during our trip. I then had to get something special for my mum too – hence the last minute purchase of the sapphire halo necklace. My mum kept commenting on how bright and sparkly the diamonds were, even though they were small. Thank you so much Jamie for helping both myself and Alex with our purchases. After having had us create her beautiful Josette custom platinum and diamond setting in the first half of 2009, Deborah contacted us in October 2009 to begin discussions for a setting for her oval shaped 3.21 carat red spinel.  She wanted something very different in two tone yellow gold and platinum, featuring some Brian Gavin Signature diamond melee.  Brian and the team put their heads together and e-mailed off a first rendering, stating that it was just a starting point or that she should feel free to throw it out if it was not to her taste.

“I love it! I was totally stunned when I opened the CADS since it was such a different concept than what I was thinking but it's the perfect design for “Big Red”. The only catch is that I don't want it made until late winter/early spring.”

We saved the CADs and waited to hear from Deborah, all the while keeping “Big Red” safely locked up.

Almost a year passed and Deborah e-mailed in that she would be ready for us to create the ring in the spring of 2011. At the end of May she gave us the green light and we finalized the details.

“I like the two tone equally as well as all gold so I want Brian to make the final decision and it'll be a surprise for me — I'll be ecstatically happy either way.”  We decided to make it two tone to enhance the dramatic effect of the design.

Deborah was coming in to town and arranged to meet with Brian to pick up her ring. She was absolutely thrilled. When she returned to her computer she e-mailed in the following:

Lesley, I believe I was rather quiet about the ring when I picked it up because then, as now, I find there are no words adequate enough to describe it. Perfection, work of art, feast for the eyes…neither individually nor together is quite enough. The ring is above and beyond my expectations for a setting to showcase the center stone. The design is exquisite; its execution is sublime, and the quality is superb. I am thrilled that I had the chance to work with you and Brian again. It just blows my mind when I talk to Brian about a project and say “Well I sorta kinda want something like…but not really like that…oh, just put your creative genius to work and magic happens.Brian makes magic happen.” Please send my regards and thanks to the rest of the crew. In February, a customer from the U.K. contacted us interested in purchasing a Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamond to create her “Blessing Engagement Ring”. She worked with Jamie and spoke with Brian to get past her concerns of purchasing a diamond with an SI2 clarity grading. Brian assured her that the diamond was clean and an excellent performer. She decided to have us set it into our popular Tapered Tiffany Style Half Round in 18K white gold. We shipped the finished ring via FedEx Priority International and we received the following fabulous e-mail and pictures from our VERY satisfied customer.

Dear Jamie, Brian and Lesley!

Thank you so much for creating our beautiful engagement ring! Though we prefer to think of it as a 'Blessing ring'. We did not have an engagement ring first time around because she was the one who did the proposing! Now we have been married for 12 years and are planning to have our marriage blessed this year. We decided we would love to have a diamond 'Blessing ring'. We are still totally in love with the ring and we still cannot stop looking at it, photographing it, cleaning it, gazing into it etc… Whenever it catches my eye (all the time) it still gives me a surge of happiness and satisfaction and I love it more every day. We've included lots of photos with this email! I love the way that, when it catches the light, lots of little flashes of colour twinkle on it – I especially love the blue, violet and indigo lights which twinkle on it all the time. The moment that I received it and first looked upon it I instantly saw the arrows. My first thoughts were how amazingly white it was, how clear and how much easier to see the arrows than I had expected. They weren't dark as they are in photographs – but scintillating silver against brilliant white. When the sun shines on it tiny lights are reflected all over the ceiling. Even in the dark it sparkles like crazy! I had expected to be able to see the inclusions when I got to know my ring, but no matter how hard I have tried, in even the brightest of sunlight, I cannot see even the tiniest inclusion. The diamond appears perfectly clear and flawless to my eyes, which I find amazing considering that it is an Si2. I would never have had the faith to buy this diamond from anyone other than Brian Gavin and I think it is a testament to his superior cutting talent. The diamond never stops flashing and sparkling. I can barely see the edges of it because it is so dimensional in its brilliance – it looks like a sparkling cloud or cushion – I can never really see the outside surface because of all the inside twinkles. I had expected the brilliance to lessen after the 'polish' of a new ring wore off but it looks even shinier and more brilliant today than ever. It has never dulled and looks brand new every day. It is much larger than I had expected. How can 1.11 carat look so big? We also adore the elegant simplicity and craftsmanship of the white gold tapered-tiffany setting. It is so cold and delicate and sturdy. I often take it off just to hold it and look upon it. I marvel at how delicate, and yet how striking it is. We love this ring. It is perfect. We think it one of a kind. It has brought us love and joy and will be a treasure to us forever. We hope to pass it on to the next generation one day. In our February 16, 2011 Blog Post we featured a video of a magnificent Brian Gavin “Blue” Signature diamond prepared by Brian Gallardo. He then sent back the diamond to be set into a magnificent Platinum "Kim" Micropave Setting.
