Alani contacted us at the beginning of November with a reset project in mind:

Hi Denise, Leslie, Brian and friends! Hope you are all well and nice and busy leading up to Christmas. I am currently researching the idea of resetting my engagement ring (1ct, in a simple solitaire setting) as I recently broke my wedding band and I'm not too sure if I want to stay with the traditional e ring / w band. I'm pretty hard on my rings and everything that I am drawn to with a lot of bling (pave, halos) isn’t really right for my lifestyle.  Anyway, I was thinking of resetting into a 3 stone, but then I'm not sure if that will be enough bling so I'm looking at a Graduated 5 stone using my current 1ct stone as the center.

Denise worked with Alani to come up with the best combination of diamond sizes to get the flowing, graduated look she was after and also worked on several different ideas for the setting. The final diamond specs were as follows:

• Center stone 1.05ct F SI1 is a GIA XXX round diamond.
• 2 x 0.423ct F SI1 Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds.
• 2  x 0.20ct F VS Brian Gavin Signature diamond melee.

Alani decided not to ship her center stone to us and searched to find a qualified local Australian jeweler to set it. We had all the measurements of the stone and were able to create the CAD with that information. We tweaked the center prongs to make sure that only the prongs showed from the top view, and that the trellis wires were not visible from the top. We sent the updated CAD, received approval and proceeded to caste the ring in platinum and then set the 4 side stones. We e-mailed Glamor Shots of the almost finished ring and then shipped it:

I picked up the package and the ring is beautiful! I can't wait until I get the center stone set…

A few days later we received this e-mail:

Hello Denise, Lesley, Brian and the team at BGD! I am please to let you know that the ring has been completed with the center stone being set today!! I am in love with the ring and it is exactly what I imagined it to be. It's amazing how you guys can take a drawing and bring it to life! The ring is just one ball of sparkle at the moment. It is really unbelievable! I find myself laughing every time I catch a glimpse of it because it is just so unreal. Thanks again, Alani.

In August Layla started speaking with us about creating a diamond band for her. She was initially interested in a version of Lesley’s new rose gold and platinum diamond band but decided that she wanted to incorporate some certified Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds. She sent us several inspiration pictures from different websites to illustrate what she envisioned.

The project was put on hold temporarily and 3 weeks ago she called in that she was ready to get started. She worked with Brian to select 5 x 0.31 to 0.32 ct G SI1 Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds which would be set together with 8 x .10 ct F/G VS Brian Gavin Signature melee. We e-mailed her the first CAD rendition, and after she requested feedback on Pricescope, we made some subtle changes, e-mailed her the second CAD for approval and then milled the wax.

Layla had requested that in addition to the usual Glamor Shots that are included with every Brian Gavin piece, we provide her with pictures of the wax and empty casting, which we built into the final price.

WOW. It looks so delicate and beautiful. It turned out amazing. And that's WITHOUT the jaw dropping diamonds! I can't wait to open that box!

Needless to say, the finished piece was a masterpiece. The diamonds were all set with fine prongs and the underside of the shank was hand milgrained to provide the finishing touch. Layla named her diamond band after Aurora, the Roman Goddess of the Dawn

I ADORE IT. I absolutely adore it. And there is nothing understated about it. It is just amazing.

In September Anne e-mailed us to start discussions about the new ring she was planning to have us create for her as a belated diamond wedding band. She had her choices narrowed down to either a 5-stone setting like the Nightingale, or a three stone, a solitaire with two pear side stones. She was concerned about finger coverage being that she had a larger than average ring size 10.5 and we provided her with pictures of the loose diamonds to reassure her. She decided to go with a version of the Nightingale in 18K yellow gold with a platinum gallery with a 1.28 ct Brian Gavin Signature H & A in the center and then 2 x 0.78 ct Signature BGD’s and lastly 2 x 0.55 ct on the ends.  She wanted 2 bezel set blue sapphires representing their 2 sons and a “surprise” pink sapphire inside the shank for their daughter. She sent in a sample ring to make sure that we got the ring size correct.  Once the creation of the ring was in process, Anne asked us to leave her out of any subsequent e-mails or phone calls and to work directly with her husband.

We contacted Anthony the day the ring was to ship and e-mailed him the Glamor Shots. He went to pick up the package the next morning and could not control himself not to call Anne with feedback!! Remember this was to be a Christmas Surprise!!!

So I had to call and give you ladies an update on the ring saga, because remember I haven't seen it, and I haven't looked at the pictures. And mind you he's telling me I'll get it for Christmas and I told him last night that he will have to find another place to sleep if he makes me wait!  So Anthony goes and picks it up today at FedEx. And the FedEx lady asked him what it was, and he told him a ring; and she says "that ain't no ring, it's too heavy – it's books" and encourages Anthony to open the box "just to make sure". Which he does, and finds another smaller Fed Ex box. And then he opens that box, and finds another FedEx box. (now I've seen the PS postings of the packaging so I'm not surprised) but the FedEx lady asks him if he's sure there's a ring and not a whole bunch of boxes. So he says no I'm sure, and opens the little box in the Fedex facility – and apparently the world stopped and everyone oohed and aahhed over it. And the guy with Anthony from his office said that anyone looking at the scene would have thought he was proposing to the FedEx lady. And the same lady asks if it's an engagement ring, and he says, no I'm married, and she replies "you sure must like her". LOL So he gets back to the office and is apparently enjoying showing a couple of the guys in the office, and one guy says Holy $–t is that real? about three times, and now apparently half of Atlanta has seen it but not me yet. And it's Sophie's fourth birthday today so who knows WHEN I'll get it. And I asked him what he thought, and he says "sweetie, it's unreal. It doesn't even look real it's so sparkly and huge" Whoop Whoop!  I just had to share because the only bad part of you guys being internet-based is you most of the time don't get to see the reactions of folks. Let me tell you, I'm already so excited I can hardly stand it! You'll probably know when I get it when you hear the scream in Texas all the way from Georgia!  Thanks to both of you for this amazing diamond buying experience. Anne

When Anthony gave her the ring that evening she was speechless! She called in the next day and just gushed about how beautiful and perfect the ring was – she also sent in some wonderful hand shots that are included in the gallery below. We all had so much fun with this project and know that Anne is just loving her new 5 stone ring!!!

A little over a month ago Elisa contacted us to discuss resetting her 5 stone diamond band to celebrate her upcoming birthday on 10/10/10. It was yellow gold with five .18-.20 pointers and the setting was heavy and outdated.  She loved our 5 stone trellis setting and wanted to have it made in Rose Gold. Being that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and she is a 15 year breast cancer survivor,  she also wanted us to set a pink “surprise” sapphire into the inside of the shank.

I am a 15 year breast cancer survivor and PINK is a big deal to me.

We created her beautiful new ring for her, and shipped it out last week, well in advance of her birthday. After she had received it she wrote the following e-mail:

Hi Lesley and Brian, Just wanted to say thank you so much for the beautiful job you guys did on my 5 stone Rose Gold Trellis. The rose gold is just so beautiful and I cannot believe how my diamonds sparkle. I love the surprise PINK sapphire. As a 15 year Breast Cancer survivor PINK means alot to me. Needless to say I did not wait til my 10-10-10 birthday to wear it; I did not make it out of the FEDEX parking lot before I had it on! I have already received many compliments on it and have passed your name on to two teachers at school! You should also know I am using one of the glamour shots as my profile pic on Facebook!!! Christina e-mailed in almost 3 weeks ago wanting to begin discussions regarding the 5 stone ring she was planning on having us create for her. She worked with Denise and Brian to select her 5 Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows diamonds. For the setting she decided to go with the Nightingale 5 stone setting with a 14K rose gold shank and a platinum gallery. She had been married 5 years (the 5 stones), she had added two beautiful children to her family (two bezel set diamonds). Her only dilemma was that when she got married she brought her daughter into the marriage. She also wanted her represented so she had us set a secret aquamarine inside the shank. All 5 of them are represented by the 5 diamonds.

On receiving the ring she shared her excitement and sent in the following e-mail:

Dear Brian, Lesley, Denise, and Jamie,

My ring is home!! It is everything I hoped it would be and more. The Diamonds are so beautiful, white and sparkly. Even when I walk in my hall where there is no light, my ring still performs. I am so thankful for your patience with me changing my mind on the first diamonds. It made the experience very pleasant and I am so happy with the diamonds Brian put together for me. I really appreciated the comparison pictures and the guidance in knowing these were in fact the diamonds for me. They far exceed my expectations, and quite honestly I have never seen any diamond, let alone 5 diamonds as beautiful as these. The great thing is they are just the right size, not too much and not too little. I don't detect the graduation in the stones at all, they are pure perfection! The Nightingale setting is just beautiful. The way it shows off my diamonds is awesome. I cannot say enough about the beauty of the rose gold; it is the most perfect color. I am looking forward to having future projects made with the rose gold. Everything from the first call (and the several after), the e-mails, down to the care in your packaging and paperwork was amazing! Thank you so much, I can't wait to work with you all again! • Hi Lesley,  I just picked up the ring from Fedex and it SURPASSES all of my expectations, it is one of the few times I can honestly say that the photos don't do it justice. I love everything about it. It has the perfect amount of flow in the design, the pavee diamonds in the band look amazing, but my favorite feature of it has to be the mount that the main stone is set in. It looks stunning and is so well done. I cannot sufficiently express how happy I am with this ring. The box it came in even looks great! I'll definitely be using it when I propose.  The proposal isn't until August 14th (so 1.5 weeks) and I'm going to have a hard time waiting to give it to her. I have no doubt that she will love it. • Dear Leslie, I finally got to see it in person after drooling over the e-mailed photos for weeks. It is just magnificent! It has so much more sparkle than I expected. • I have picked up the ring. It is finally complete and i feel very much at rest now that the ring is ready and looking incredible. I will be making a small ring box out of wood (probably spalted and figured maple) so that it can fit in my pocket and serve as a personal touch. Thank you for replacing the ring box so that she may use it to store the ring once i give it to her. I will send you picks of the ring in the box after I make it and let you know how the proposal goes (may be a while since my August vacation with her got postponed). The ring is now flawless in my eyes and i am very happy that i chose Brian Gavin Diamonds. We recently created 2 magnificent Classic 5 Stone U-Prong diamond bands.

Case 1:

Stephen called in from the UK at the end of May wanting to order a Rose Gold Classic 5 Stone U-prong band for his wife’s 40th birthday on June 18.  He gave us a budget and we selected five 0 .40 J VS1 and VS2 Brian Gavin Signature H & A diamonds and sent him the quote breakdown. He trusted our selections since he had heard about us from several other British men who are members of a UK car discussion forum called www.pistonheads.com .  He also wanted to incorporate the birthstones of his 3 children, so we set a "surprise" sapphire, amethyst and emerald inside the shank. We created the ring for him in 14K rose gold to ensure the deep rose gold color and needless to say it was beautiful!  We e-mailed him the Glamor Shots and received this e-mail:

Dear Lesley, The ring looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to see it and give it to Rachel. Your photography has very good lighting and shows the ring off beautifully. Thanks for getting it sorted in time for my wife’s birthday. Yours Stephen R.

We shipped it out to him and he received it in time to give it to his wife on her birthday at lunch. He called from his car on the way home raving about the ring and about her reaction!

Case 2:

Sesha called in towards the end of May and spoke with Jamie. She was very upset that she had lost her diamond wedding band and wanted us to work directly with Jewelers Mutual to arrange the replacement. She had been eying our beautiful Classic 5  Stone U-prong band and selected five 0.40 G VS1 and VS2 Brian Gavin Signature H & A diamonds. We submitted the quote to Jewelers Mutual who were very easy to work with, it was approved and we created her beautiful 18K yellow gold and platinum band. She also purchased a pair of our Lever Back huggies in yellow gold.

Good Afternoon Leslie! I picked up my LOVELY, SPARKLY, Brilliant, well crafted diamond band and huggies!!!!!!! Thank you so very much for your patience and kindness and expertise! You and Jamie turned what can be a stressful, losing my mind experience…into a worry free, stress free don't worry about a thing experience. Thank you Leslie and Jamie!
