Brian Gavin proudly announces the release of his new mobile device application (app), intimately connecting mobile users with Brian Gavin Diamonds (BGD).  Brian Gavin commissioned the development of the app to facilitate a personal connection between BGD and its customers and fans. The app is free to iPhone, iPod and iPad owners and delivers VIP status to users.

The interactive nature of the BGD mobile app allows one to search for individual diamonds through its Diamond Search function. This advanced search design allows users to find diamonds that meet individual wants or needs by facilitating sorting through a variety of specific user-defined categories. In addition, the application allows users to search through BGD’s extensive inventory of fine jewelry, which includes engagement rings, pendants, eternity bands, bracelets and a variety of custom designed pieces.

With the launch of our Diamond Search on Facebook today,  Brian Gavin Diamonds is the  first internet diamond company to offer consumers a way to shop for diamonds and share with friends on Facebook. Yesterday, July 28, Brian Gavin was a featured speaker at the ASA International Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Conference  covered several disciplines and ran from July 26 – 28, at the J.W. Marriott Resort and Spa. The Gems and Jewelry Program featured many different specialists in the field including Peter Yantzer and Patrick Stout from the American Gem Society Laboratories  and Nancy Stacy, a well known and respected appraiser from California.

Brian detailed the development of his Hearts and Arrows Grading System and the strict parameters he enforces to ensure true, symmetrical hearts and arrows patterning. He also recounted his entry into the Internet “e-tail” marketing business in 1999 and described his exciting journey of growth and success in the years since.

The conference was attended by appraisers from all across the country and it was a great honor to be able to network with this professional group of men and women.

A few months ago we received an e-mail from a longtime customer whose mother had dropped her ring and the diamond was chipped. She asked us if I could take a look at it and see if I could salvage it for her. On receiving it, I did my usual workup on the diamond and provided our customer with my predictions for the outcome. The diamond started off weighing 2.223 ct and was poorly cut. After the recut process, I predicted that the diamond would weigh approximately 2.028 ct – a 10% weight loss, but that I would retain the measurement of the diameter or “footprint” as much as possible.

We ended up with the diamond weighing 2.01 ct. In order to retain the weight above 2 carats I did not concentrate on ending up with a hearts and arrows diamond. As you can see our customer ended up with a beautiful ideal cut diamond which was clearly a better performer. The images below tell the whole story (please click on images twice for full view).

In mid August we received a call from a very discerning customer searching for a 1.50 ct + high color/clarity Brian Gavin Signature diamond for an engagement ring. It took us a couple of months to fill his order, but we shipped out the diamond of his dreams last week. With his permission, we reprint part of his e-mail giving us feedback on his reactions to his diamond.

Dear Brian and Lesley,

I had some time last night to inspect the diamond. I have an Idealscope, ASET viewer and the hearts viewer you provided as well as a light table and 8x loupe. I prepared by examining the CZ calibration stone that ships with the Idealscope just to get a feel for how to manipulate the gem and what to expect. After I gained confidence with this, I put on the white gloves and opened the package with the diamond. I have to say that it was really quite something. Not being familiar with precious stones and with limited experience going to actual bricks and mortars, I would say that the experience was somewhat novel. I put the stone on the black plate and viewed the arrows first, using the viewer you provided. The symmetry was superb, really something. I then tried the ASET and Idealscope. Just as in the photos, the arrows were distinct and perfectly aligned. I then flipped the stone over and viewed the hearts. I think I have been spoiled by the images you provided as I noticed that the hearts image would shift as I moved my head or changed ever so slightly my angle of view. However, it was still really magnificent. I know that the 8x loupe would not prove sufficient nonetheless I pulled it out to see if I could discern any inclusions. The grading report shows the inclusions in the center third of the table. I could not make anything out.

I spent quite a bit of time just admiring the cut. Afterwards, I pulled out an LED flashlight to see what would happen. In fact, I viewed the stone under different lighting conditions. I am very happy with the purchase and believe that after it has been set and I can compare it to other real world diamonds, its beauty will stand out the more. Suffice it to say that I am thrilled. I will spend some time thinking about the setting then touch base again…I have enjoyed working with you and really appreciate your time and counsel for this important purchase.

…Hi Lesley, The diamond is beautiful! It has very colorful flashes! I had to get it appraised on Friday because BF wanted to and the GIA gemologist appraised it as a G-VS1. I'd put it at a low F/high G as well and it truly was very eye clean! I can't believe it's really an SI1! To be honest, I haven't had a lot of time with the stone at all, I only got to see it once when we opened the box and more closely a second time at the appraisers! It's being hidden from me until the ring is finished entirely. I will most likely write a more detailed review on PS about my experience once bf proposes and I actually get to live with it daily. Lol. I would have wrote sooner but lighting wasn't ideal until we went to the jewelers on the weekend…(we switched to energy-saving fluorescent light-bulbs.) Thank you for the hearts & arrows viewer. I forgot to ask if it was included, so when it dropped out of the bag unexpectedly it was very exciting for us! Beautiful hearts by the way. BF was very satisfied too! Overall a very easy transaction for us, it's a no-brainer to keep this one because no one online or locally offered us an ideal cut like yours at prices like yours!
