Brian Gavin Diamonds has instituted a policy regarding matching wedding bands. Even if our customers have purchased a catalog item, each setting is made to order and there will be slight variations. In order to guarantee that a wedding band matches perfectly with the engagement ring, we must have the engagement ring in house. If possible, the only solution to having to send back the engagement ring is to order both rings at the same time. If a customer insists on ordering the band without sending in the engagement ring the sale will be final.
Even if we create the CAD for the matching band at the same time that we make a custom engagement ring setting, everything is hand finished and we need to be able to match up the end point of the diamond melee as well as the thickness, shape and height of the band. The plus of sending in the engagement ring is that we can check the prongs and refinish the ring. Negatives include having to part with the engagement ring for atleast 2 – 3 weeks, as well as incurring round trip shipping charges.
Below are two examples of wedding sets where both customers ordered the custom engagement ring first and then had to send it in for us to match the bands. Although they had to pay for round trip shipping and insurance, there was no charge to check and refinish the engagement rings and both customers were extremely happy with the results.
RING 1 – Custom platinum setting with 3mm wide bead set channel setting, with 5 stones on each side and the 4 prong Novela style head – ring size 6 – center stone is 1.70 ct Brian Gavin Signature H & A and matching band.
RING 2 – Custom Platinum Setting with 2mm F/G VS Princess cut diamonds ring size 4.75 (approx.0.60 ctw) – ring size 4.75 – center stone is 1.73 ct GIA certified Emerald cut and matching band.
