A customer recently contacted us to create 2 custom pieces using two colored spessartite garnets that she had purchased. Evidently it has been difficult for her and other colored stone lovers to find a custom jeweler to create custom settings for their stones. Most custom jewelers shy away from colored stones as they are softer than diamonds and easier to scratch or break during the setting process. Being that we have two master jewelers on staff that specialize in setting colored stones, we felt comfortable taking on the projects, although we always clarify the risk of setting colored stones with our customers.
Needless to say, the customer was very pleased with both projects, even though the ring had to come back and be remade in a slightly larger size, using the same head.
PROJECT ONE:
An 18K white gold split shank rope style solitaire for her 2.27 carat cushion cut medium dark strong reddish orange Malayan pyrope-spessartite garnet.
PROJECT TWO:
An 18K yellow gold half bezel pendant with a split bail, with Brian Gavin Signature melee F/G VS set into the bail for her approximately 3.5 carat 8.5 x 6.7mm emerald cut medium dark, strong yellowish orange spessartite garnet with a radiant cut bottom.
The two projects are best described in the pictures below.
